Qualified In Submarines

Rocky Mountain Submarine Veterans

The concept of qualifying in submarines has not changed over the years.  Your life, and the lives of your shipmates, depends on your ability to react instantly, and correctly, in any given emergency situation.  To a lesser degree, the qualification process enables one to be proficient, productive and safe in the day-to-day, hour-to-hour and minute-to-minute extremely complicated and demanding operation of a complicated, lethal beast called a submarine.

The methodology, who-does-what and the process may vary from decade-to-decade, year-to-year and class of submarine.   The people involved, their rank, position and responsibilities my vary as well.  The bottom line is, to be Qualified in Submarines you must “know the Boat”

Here are some links of published narratives describing the qualification process over a span of years and different classes of submarines.  I’m sure additional web searches would produce more information for those who may be interested.
