Hey All,

We finally got all our ducks in a row. So, click the button below for the order form for the engraved bricks. We want to move this project forward as fast as we can to meet our March 30, 2026, due date for getting the bricks ordered, so we can have the project completed by June 30, 2026.

Commemorative Purpose is to:

  • Recognize Rocky Mountain Submarine Veterans who are on Eternal Patrol
  • Recognize Veteran Family members who are on Eternal Patrol from Previous Wars (i.e. Father, Mother, Children, Brother, Sister, Grand Father, Grand Mother)
  • Recognize current veterans who are supporters of the USS Grayling (SS 209) Memorial Plaza

There are two options to order the bricks -- Tax deductible and non-tax deductible.

  1. If you chose Non-tax deductible, you have two options:

Some notes to remember:

  1. If you get a 4" by 8" brick, you have two options -- one with clip art and one without clip art. There are seven possible clip arts. See form for selections. IT IS NOT RECOMMENDED TO USE THE ROCKY MOUNTAIN CLIP ART ON THIS SIZE BRICK. If you use clip art you have three lines of 18 characters and this includes spaces and punctuation. With no clip art you have three lines with 23 characters. Cost $50 per brick.
  2. If you get a 8" by 8" brick you have the same options as above. With clip art you have four lines of 23 characters and without clip art you have five lines of 23 characters. Cost $100 per brick.
  3. When you place an order, you can also get a 4" by 4" replica coaster for $10. If you wish, you can order additional Replicas for $10 each. Just indicate the total number that you wish to purchase. Examples are shown on the order form.

Update From October 18th Meeting

Morning All,

After the initial confusion we had a pretty good meeting on Saturday. Leslie, the post manager, had a family emergency and she was unable to be at the post to cook up our lunch. So I hope I contacted most members to let them know that we will not be having lunch. The meeting went off as planned and we had 20 members show up with 23 total. We did have a new prospective member show up, who said that he would like to join. Our speaker was Robert Williscroft and he spoke about his time on a research vessel in the Bering Sea. Our next meeting will be November 15th, starting at 1100 for lunch and 1200 for the meeting. We should have a speaker, James Daigle, editor of the Veterans Life Magazine. He missed last months meeting so hopefully he can make this one.

The following items were discussed:

  1. Remember Western Regional Roundup is open for registration. Date April 16 thru 19 2026; location is Sam's Town in Las Vegas. We have six members planning on going. It should be fun so think about going. Any questions contact me or Dale.
  2. Order your bricks. We have sold 28 so far. Don't wait until the last minute.
  3. Plaques are done at Ft Logan. See Facebook page to view. (USSVI/Rocky Mountain Base). Speaking of -- Patrick is doing an excellent job on running our Facebook page and website.
  4. REMEMBER base and national dues are coming up. $15 base and $40 national. DO NOT WAIT UNTIL THE LAST MOMENT. National will drop you from the roster on January 1st. Pay all dues to Grant.
  5. Channel 9 news is thinking of doing a piece about our WAA at Ft Logan and Arvada Cemetery. Grant, Bruce Weller and myself will be doing a pitch to them in early November.
  6. The Rocky Mountain Honor Flight will be doing another telethon in April 2026. I hope to make this an annual event for us.
  7. Speaking of the Honor Flight, Dale gave a moving account of this fight and how much he appreciated the attention they got from everyone. Our veterans are respected and honored. Please sign up for your chance for a Honor Flight.
  8. If you want a 2026 Submarine Calendar, please contact Tami.
  9. Remember we have BINGO November 19th at the State Veterans Home at 1000.
  10. Lastly the Broomfield Veterans Museum is have a Veteran's Day event at the museum at 1100 on November 11th. Yours truly will be the guest speaker. I have visited the museum and it is pretty impressive. They have a whole display on Clay Decker our WWII member who was on the USS Tang when she sunk and spent a year as a POW.

That's about it.

Thanks

Paul

Asbestos Alert!

Written by T. Michael Bircumshaw and is in the last publication of the American Submariner on pg. 29.  It is important enough to be read to the members as they may have missed it.  “If you served any time between years 1900 and 2000 and did any time at sea or at certain Military installations, then you have been exposed to Asbestos.  Please get at least a high definition, no contrast needed, cat scan of your lungs.  Do it with a civilian pulmonologist, not the VA, and ask them to specifically look for pleural plaques and interstitial scarring in your lungs.  Once you have finally done that, call me at 951-775-4549.  Call me to tell me the results and we are hoping that your lungs are clean.  But, if like me, you have pleural plaques or/and asbestosis, then I can offer you some guidance on what to do about it.  It cannot be cured, but it can be compensated for, call me.  Don’t make me repeat myself, because I will.  Please do this for you and your family.”

Here are the links of how to make a claim to VA on PACT Act issues.

The first one is off the VA website and it is the actual form to make a claim. It does require you to be registered with the VA health System. The second one is a link to a VFW website to ask for help on applying for a claim. They do step by step instructions. The phone number is the VA hot line to ask VA help in filing a claim. The last is a YouTube on all this information. He is an ex-marine with info on all the agent orange and toxic exposure acts. Good info.
