Update From June 14th Meeting

Morning All,

We put out a lot of information yesterday. First lets start with the next three monthly meetings. They are a little different than what I put out at the meeting. As you have guess the post manager is a little disorganized. She works a full time job plus post manager. So sometime things gets a little jumbled, but remember that we will always get a Saturday for our meetings.

  1. July meeting will be the 26th. I put out the 19th but the Post Commander reminded Leslie of a event on that day.
  2. August meeting will be on the 23rd. We needed to change from the third Saturday because of the Littleton parade.
  3. September meeting will be the 27th. We needed to change from the third Saturday because of the Broomfield parade.

Now for the remainder if the meeting

  1. It is with great joy that I tell you about our first Kaps 4 Kids event on September 9, a Tuesday, at 1:30 PM, arriving 45 minutes prior, which would be 12:45 PM. Jennifer will need the names of all people in our group one day prior so that I can provide that to the Children’s Hospital volunteer director.
  2. We inducted Jennifer's dad, Norman Lavigne, into the Holland Club.
  3. WRR in 2026 is going to be at a resort called Sams Town in Las Vegas. Dates April 16 thru 19. Room cost is $50 per night and there is a KOA camp ground right across the street. Registration starts in August/September
  4. WE NEED A COMMITTEE FOR OUR WRR IN 2027. We have to submit our recommendations for a venue by this Oct/Nov to the WRR committee. Tami Bowman has agreed to be our chairman and I have agreed to be the vice chairman. WE NEED AT LEAST TWO MORE. Please contact me or Tami if you want to join. It will require just a little organization and volunteering on our part to host this event.
  5. 2026 is our 50th anniversary for the Grayling Memorial. The estimated cost for the plaque is just under three thousand. Ray Savard has generously said that he will donate the cost of installation and Grant has come up with an excellent idea on how to earn some money. We are going to sell inscribed paving bricks. We will lay 160 bricks around the flagpole at the USS Grayling memorial. The bricks will cost $50 each and there are several options on what to engrave on them. The bricks are open to families of base members on eternal patrol, active/associate members for their own information and active/associate members who have family members from other military branches on eternal patrol. We are in discussion with Denver parks and recreations for the needed permits.
  6. The 250th anniversary challenge coins are on order and should be available in about two weeks. We have a list of people who ordered coins. Total of 38 and we got two extra.
  7. Here are the following parades that we will be attending this year:
  8. Estes Park - July 7th
  9. Boulder County Fair/Parade - August 2nd
  10. Littleton Parade - August 16th
  11. Louisville Labor Day Parade - September 1st
  12. Broomfield parade September - 20th
  13. We have a WWII and RMB plaques at Fort Logan and both are in need of repairs. The weather is good, so we need to scrape and repaint the background. I will be putting out a date for the working party. Bruce Marsden is this something you might be able to do once we get the scraped and painted black? Let me know. Also Myra are there any requirements that Ft Logan need from us or can we just do the repairs?
  14. Dale Bowman Jr. is an Afghanistan army veteran, who has spent many hours working on our float and tent. He desires to be an associate member. In recognition of all his hard work and time, the executive board has voted to pay for the first year of his associate membership.
  15. We are going to need a working party to do some repairs to the tent. I will be putting out a date as soon as we get coordinated.
  16. NEXT SOCIAL EVENT. Tami/Dale Bowman are putting on their annual July BBQ. It will be July 5th at 1100 to 1400. Location is 107 Aspen Dr, Fredrick. They will supply hamburgers/hot dogs/brats. Bring a side dish, dessert. and what you want to drink like sodas/beer/anything else. We had a big turn out last year and it was a lot of fun.
  17. BINGO Colorado State Veteran’s Home, 1919 N. Quentin St, Aurora June 18th (Wednesday) TIME1000. REMEMBER THE NEXT BINGO IS JULY 16th BEFORE OUR NEXT MEETING.
  18. REMINDER that the post is doing a car show next Saturday the 21st. See attachment.

That is about it.

Thanks,

Paul

Asbestos Alert!

Written by T. Michael Bircumshaw and is in the last publication of the American Submariner on pg. 29.  It is important enough to be read to the members as they may have missed it.  “If you served any time between years 1900 and 2000 and did any time at sea or at certain Military installations, then you have been exposed to Asbestos.  Please get at least a high definition, no contrast needed, cat scan of your lungs.  Do it with a civilian pulmonologist, not the VA, and ask them to specifically look for pleural plaques and interstitial scarring in your lungs.  Once you have finally done that, call me at 951-775-4549.  Call me to tell me the results and we are hoping that your lungs are clean.  But, if like me, you have pleural plaques or/and asbestosis, then I can offer you some guidance on what to do about it.  It cannot be cured, but it can be compensated for, call me.  Don’t make me repeat myself, because I will.  Please do this for you and your family.”

Here are the links of how to make a claim to VA on PACT Act issues.

The first one is off the VA website and it is the actual form to make a claim. It does require you to be registered with the VA health System. The second one is a link to a VFW website to ask for help on applying for a claim. They do step by step instructions. The phone number is the VA hot line to ask VA help in filing a claim. The last is a YouTube on all this information. He is an ex-marine with info on all the agent orange and toxic exposure acts. Good info.
